Daymond is known as the Shark of style. He walks into a room often dressed to the nine’s and turning heads. He latest investment of time is with Xedo, an online consumer application designed to offer customized tuxedo rentals. It makes getting ready for the Oscars, a bridal party or formal wear event as simple as a few clicks, your formal wear is delivered like a gift directly to your doorstep. The on-demand luxury style-wear is resonating with Millennials and more. Daymond was introduced to the two visionaries who would bring this experience to America. The team had already been shipping formal wear for years all over Europe. Richard Freedman and Peter Abruzzo caught Daymond’s attention. Peter has been in the industry for more than 25 years. As CEO of Modern Tuxedo, he grew the tuxedo business from one single location operation to one of the highest grossing formalwear companies nationwide. Richard Freedman, Managing Director at ACS Clothing, is the brainchild behind the company. Richard, along with his father Joe, established ACS in 1997 and along with their staff of 100 plus dispatch out over 400,000 outfits per year.
Daymond knew a partnership with Xedo was a perfect fit for him. “I was very happy, all of the key players are there, quality in the product is there and then of course easiest thing to sell is the truth. So it was very easy for me.” Daymond explained. Daymond saw a future for Xedo and for him. He knew his access to retailers and a strong social following by the massive millennial market would provide value. “The best part about today is that you can reach everyone from your cell phone. We are a very visual world. So whether Millennials are dressing casual during the day, or when they are going through those special times in their lives, they are dressing up; and they are sharing that all over social media.” Daymond notes. Of course one of the best things about Millennials, they love to share. “They are the biggest ambassadors, the kind you simply couldn’t pay for. Like when you and I grew up, I had 8 friends, these kids have 800. And there are 8 million of those kids.”
The partnership with Daymond is invigoriating to Peter and Richard who initially had some concerns about bringing the Xedo concept to America. They knew they needed iconic leaders to represent their brand. “I worked with Daymond years ago when we launched FUBU into formal wear. And it was a huge success, huge. And then our friend said Daymond is the perfect person for this. Look, he is fashion, he is brains, and he is everything. We like working with him and I think he is going to bring us to the level that we need to be. I think it’s going to be a tremendous success.” Peter noted. From our Millennial Study, we know that the tech-friendship population gravitates to convenience, influencers they trust, on-demand response, and saving time, all things that Xedo promises to deliver. “I think we will have a really successful business and bringing these partners together is key.” Peter explained.
What would Daymond John tell his 20 year-old self to focus on today? “ I would give myself financial intelligence, because no matter what you do in business it is hard to make money but it is ten times harder to keep it. I would share with myself that you are going to make way more mistakes in life, don’t try to be better than anybody out there, the only person that you are supposed to be better than is the person that you were yesterday.” As a financial advisor, this is the same message we’re sharing with our clients each day.
So how does Daymond John view success? “Success to me is doing exactly what I do now. I am allowed to invest in other people’s dreams and take a ride with them, I am allowed to see other people now find financial security or follow their dream all the way through and see if their dream works or doesn’t work.” Daymond explains. “I am also educating myself every day because of investing in all of these businesses I get to learn how the next generation is operating and I get to take that and not only use it for things like this venture right here or other businesses that I am doing.” Right now, Daymond’s excitement is in Xedo. “We are going to have a lot of fun with it and make people look really amazing. Enjoy those special times in life and have fun with it!”

"Xedo was created out of the belief that rental doesn't have to consist of ill-fitting tuxedos that are poor quality and inconvenient to obtain," said Peter Abruzzo, Xedo US CEO. "We've brought together an unprecedented collaboration of talent to provide the finest fabrics, quality and style ever introduced to rental, making exceptional black-tie style accessible and affordable for everyone."
A major benefit of these partnerships is Xedo's exclusive, insider access to all of the designers' exact colors and fabrics, ensuring that all accessories – from vests and cummerbunds to pocket squares and bow ties - are truly a perfect match. Now, bridal party color coordination is easier than ever and more precise. Colors can even be mixed and matched to tell a personalized color story.
Wondering what to expect this season? Designs from Xedo's debut collection are both masculine and modern, sophisticated and sleek, with unique details. According to Kelsy Zimba, Xedo's Creative Director, key trends will include striking grosgrain and satin trim lapel detailing, beautiful fabric buttons with real buttonholes on the cuff (unheard of in the rental market), matte shoes and the comeback of the cummerbund.
While black was the color of choice in 2015 with 80% of grooms selecting the shade, in 2016 expect an even split between black, gray and navy. This season features tuxedos in deep, rich tones of blue such as Midnight Blue, Blue Ink and Navy, as well as stormy shades of gray in hues like Charcoal, Steel, Heather and Cement. Trimmings for tuxes are all about color, with brides favoring pastels for the groomsmen or sticking to more of a monochrome look, matching the bow tie to the suit. Expect new styles to be added as trends change.
Tuxedos start at $95 for the jacket and pants, while packages range in price from $170 - $195. An incomparable value, packages include a jacket, pants, cummerbund or vest, neckwear, shirt, studs & cufflinks, pocket square, shoes and socks. Xedo carries tuxedos in size 3 to 66 to accommodate both children and adults, ensuring everyone can look and feel their best.
